The narrator preacherman in black is Mark Linkous (aka Sparklehorse). But evil farmer demon resembles Tom Waits, with his twisted, wide-as-a-mile grin. I know they collaborated, and he was Mark’s idol.

I used to hate this song. Then I moved on to liking it, but still thinking it wasn't among Mark's masterpieces. Just now, I was feeling really fucking angry, depressed, angsty, and generally in the blackest of moods. I listened to this song... and suddenly, I got it. I understand it. Holy shit, I understand what it's trying to say. I think I might finally understand the appeal behind punk rock. Of course, comparing my silly school problems to Mark's very troubled life is stupid.
