This is Ian Astbury from the Cult before it became the cult, he has the best voice ever, and the swagger to go with it, this isn't punk at all, this is rock with an Ian Astbury funky swagger that only he can do and he is the greatest singer ever period ...

3rd rate comment from a nowhere man, I'd say. The Cult wanted to reach the top, so a metamorphosis was needed. That takes a lot of drive and talent. They adapted and years down the line, meet us like an old friend, a great memory, with a happy, successful outcome. That takes intelligence. Love The Cult and the genius of Ian Astbury.

The Cult were recently guests on That Metal Show on VH-1 Classic. They have both hard rock fans and lovers of the older stuff. I must admit, Not every post-punk band can make that transition to hard rock the way they did. TSOL did it. Danzig did too. I'm sure there are a few others...

I wouldn't call them hair metal. It was AC/DC ish..loud crunching guitars and more melody. I like everything they did from Southern Death Cult to the Cult. By the way, nothing wrong with hard rock & heavy metal.

as a bass player, this is one of the reasons i gravitate toward goth + post-punk.
