I will agree that it is not a great Cornell vocal. Cornell sings out of tune and he just doesn't sound like much of a singer here.

I didn't know this song was a song first used in a movie, in this case The Avengers. I also didn't notice a Soundgarden song in that movie. I didn't know the band was back together. I've been listening to this song in the context of a live recording done in Canada. Live to Rise is a pretty kick ass song. This is sort of SG's "Big Guns" song. I'm referring of course to AC/DC performing Big Guns for one of the Terminator movies.
