To say there were no rudiment books in the 70's is a straight lie. Stick Control (Stone) and 14 Modern Contest Solos for Snare Drum have been around since the 50's. And if you went to a Steve Gadd performance, there's no way you couldn't find a rudiment book, sheet, poster, etc.
