Quite different to later versions especially the lyrics.

Fantastic! I grew up with Bing Crosby singing this but I never heard this version. Who knew this song dated all the way back to 1911?! Normally I only listen to operatic records from this era, but it looks like I've been missing out!

Kathy Brier and Vince Giordano brought me here, via Boardwalk Empire.

Put that down. You don't need any more of those, you've already had 40, and I'm gonna have to cut you off.

I don't know which is sadder, the fact that you were only able to come up with one word with no reasoning behind it, or the fact that I think you are, for the most part, serious. I need a drink.

Are you trolling? Because I don't think anyone can be that resistant/ignorant to new ideas and concepts. Older is not always better. Have you heard of Michael Kamen? I personally think his best music was from AFTER 1984, and his soundtrack for the movie What Dreams May Come (1998) is mystifying.

Do NOT make generalized statements like that unless you know what you're talking about. Have you even watched TV in the last 25-30 years? The way your last posts were worded makes it seem like you haven't really paid attention to pop culture in recent years, and the fact that you would "take his word for it" makes me assume you haven't, either. So why pass judgment on something you don't know about? It makes no sense.

So everything made after 1984 in pop culture is bad?

I'll take your word for it. It's inconceivable to me that anything made today can be any good, have any taste, or be in any way edifying. Back around '84 I felt the whole universe of movies and TV deteriorating as if it had all fallen off a cliff.

Interestingly, in terms of slang and general language, they're sticking quite close to the way people spoke in the 20s. Additionally, there is a distinction between the speech of people from different social and ethnic backgrounds, so a good deal of care was taken in portraying this particular period faithfully.

Haven't seen Boardwalk Empire. Is it one of those shows that dress the actors up in period clothes and then everyone talks and acts like 21st century hoods?
