From a very early 45, released in April, 1949. Part of a box set of three 45's (Set # WP-168). The original 78 was from 1947.

A month older than I am. I've listened to this song my whole life. And it is the reason I learned to whistle.

One of their best. And someday I *will* be able to whistle like Ken.

This WAS from one of RCA's first "45 box set" issues (on color-coordinated vinyl, to let people know this was a "Country & Western" release), shortly after they introduced the "45" record a month before. Early "box set" releases were originally "78" issues from several years before....

@fatjud1 Oh, gotcha, I misread your post. As far as the Timber Trail 78's are concerned, it looks like Victor 20-1764 was released in 1945, then 20-2079 in 1947. The discography I checked said that 48-0006 matched up with the 20-2079 so that is what I went with. Not sure if 20-1764 and 20-2079 are the same recording or not (I know that they recorded a lot of these songs more than once).

I just recorded this very 78 rpm to my computer about 45 minutes ago. One of my favorites.

Hard to believe Ken Curtis (aka 'Festus', from 'Gunsmoke') was the lead singer on most of these songs pre- Roy Rogers
