Yankee's named battles on the nearest town which was Pittsburgh Landing. Southerners call it the name of the nearest landmark Shiloh. Shiloh is the name of the church on the battlefield near the hornet's nest and the bloody pond. Just south of Shiloh military reserve on Hwy 142 Hurley - So named because my GGGrandfather owned the land before and just after the Civil War. The community named it Hurley in his honor.
