this song makes me shiver...it is so filled with emotion and context and dread and despair and individualism, yet sung so beautifully.

Good stuff. I loved Sun Volt in college, that was 15 years ago, hopefully YouTube will make more people aware of this band.

@booshfan2009: When you get a chance you might give a listen to Son Volt's first two albums: "Trace" and "Straightaways." Songs like this one, for my taste, are kinda stripped down and frankly boring. Jay sometimes gets that way, but he can also write wonderfully melodic music that I think better complements his poetry. Oh, and it ROCKS too!

Of my three favourites over the last few years Ryan Adams, Wilco and Son Volt I enjoyed jay and the band disproportionately because they are real underdogs and you've got to admire that hanging in there attitude that large commercial success can strip from bigger stars.

@stina20a I'll admit I enjoy some of Ryan's stuff. But it's almost because he has a more pure "studio" voice that it sounds less genuine to me than Son Volt's work. Also, Ryan Adams isn't great live. Nevertheless, a good songwriter for the most part.

@TheJeacity LOL. Funny! Great comment! Though I have to agree that I prefer Ryan Adams. Son Volt has alot of talent but... they need to strip it down a bit more for my tastes.

@booshfan2009 You really prefer Ryan Adams to Son Volt? To me that's equivalent to saying "yeah, that Aretha Franklin is alright, but you should REALLY hear this Christina Aguilera wail!"
