I said the term is fucking retarded because it has the same name as the way you abbreviate Melodic Death Metal, which gives it both synonymous meaning, AND a new term. @Krofius Its only stupid because you haven't heard it before & offended because someone else knows something you don't. SW is very different from your typical Melodic Death band and SW isn't the only one with that sound. Countless bands sound like SW. Because bands like SW sound so different but aren't Metalcore we needed a different name to put these bands into. A lot of people like DT, Arch Enemy, and ATG but don't like bands that sound like SW.13 years ago

@Krofius The name "Melodic Death Metal" didn't even exist until the late 90's. For nearly a decade we just called it "Gothenburg Metal". The name changed when bands with similar sounds started coming from other countries other than Sweden. By then Soilwork had already changed their sound which set them apart from their friends IF. When bands started copying SW sound the term Melo-Death came around to seperate bands that have screaming and singing without being Metalcore.13 years ago

@Krofius ATG/IF/DT are the 3 main bands most people consider the founders of Melodic Death especially when talking about the "Gothenburg Sound". However for most MDM Veterans, we consider SW as a founder as well. For a long time many IF considered SW a rip off of IF. Then they changed their sound and branched off and started singing creating Melo-Death. You NEVER heard of it because you are pretty new to the genre. SW is a kick ass band, no argument there.13 years ago

@TheARDENWOOD I've NEVER heard the term Melo-death..it's called Melodeath, and it's an ABBREVIATION of melodic death metal, which means they mean the same things, they are synonyms..Soilwork was melodic death metal, but they did not start it at all, ATG/IF/DT did. Nowadays I don't know what Soilwork are, only retards spend this much time categorizing this or that, who the fuck cares really? All I know is that they kick ass, and that you are wrong. @MrBogeytime "Soilwork" was one of the founding Gothenburg Melodic Death bands, but rarely ever are considered that now. They are more known for starting the Melo-Death movement. Melo-Death is the same as Melodic Death but has both singing and screaming, but isn't Metalcore either. Though many metal rookies (6yrs or less listening to MDM) use Melo-Death and Melodic Death interchangeably, its not true. SW is Melo-Death & used to be Melodic Death with the typical Gothenburg sound.13 years ago

WHAT. GENRE. IS. THIS BAND. i mean... the 1st 2 albums were like death metal... then it started gettin like slightly melodic death metal... AND NOW THIS SONG ALMOST HAS A METALCORE INTRO THAT TOTALLY KICKS ASS.... god i love this band!!! but... what genre are they considered?!!?? everythings so mixed....
