Did not chart in Billboard, but a nice single by Snooky from "Your Hit Parade", released in July 1955. This song was originally recorded by the Feathers, but the only group to chart with it was the Jacks (also known as the Cadets) who got to #82 on the Hot 100 with their cover and #3 on the R&B chart. Original Billboard review: "Hit parade singer, Lanson, at long last, may have a hit record. He belts out a solid performance on both sides of his new release. "Why Don't You Write Me?" is an appealing R&B styled ballad, with an intense warbling job by Lanson."

Written by Laura Hollins.

B-side is "Last-Minute Love".

Let's remember, that "covering" was also done by black performers, as was the case when The Jacks recorded The Feathers number, "Why Don't You Write Me", both being black groups, or when The Teen Queens covered The Tears tune, "Until The Day I Die", with The Tears being white. Snooky's version of, "Why Don't You Write Me", was probably better, in many ways, than The Feathers version and neck and neck with The Jacks version and yes, I like all three versions. With all this said, to me, a song was meant to be sung, recorded, danced to, enjoyed, remembered, etc. etc. a million times or a trillion times, by any and all. Musicians and vocalists have recorded their own versions of the songs-of-the-day ever since the first recording studio opened it's front doors. A simple search of some of the songs of the 1930's & 1940's will show how often "covering" (not a term used until the 1970's) occurred. Sometimes a performer liked a particular song and just wanted to record a version of it, his way, and in other times, it was a recording made for the sole purpose of cashing in a songs possible popularity, with sort of a competition between recording labels or company's mixed it there as well. Great upload !

It's not a bad version, i actually like it. I have it on a CD, "Dot's Cover to Cover...Hit Upon Hit". Of course, i like the original, too.

The melody seems to remind me of "Earth Angel," don't you think?
