Smokie - Oh Carol 1978

..when I saw you walkin' my way

So nonchalant, I bet you get what you want

So do I, and I ain't losing today

Well your hips were swinging

and your jeans were clinging

You were driving me out of my mind

On a hot afternoon when there's nothing to do

You're not the sort of thing a fellow should find

So I pulled on over,

you tossed your hair off your shoulder

As you turned and you looked my way

Ahh you would have died,

you'd have skinned me alive

If I'd said what I wanted to say

So being polite,

I said "Whatcha doin' tonight?"

You said "It just so happens I'm free"

You got all the right curves

and all the right words

And that's all right by me

Oh Carol,

you got me eatin' my heart away

You got me counting my nights and days

Oh I'm floating on the milky way

Oh Carol,

nobody done it before

Oh baby you've opened the door

Oh Carol you can do it some more

Well if you're ready for this,

when we started to kiss

She said "Hold on a minute or two"

Well naturally I knew it couldn't be me

I said "Babe, what's troublin' you?"

She said "I'm not sixteen,

if you know what I mean"

So we sat and we talked for a while

When we finally kissed,

you know she didn't resist

And I must say she did it with style

Oh Carol,

you got me eatin' my heart away

You got me counting my nights and days

Oh I'm floating on the milky way

Oh Carol,

nobody done it before

Oh baby you've opened the door

Oh Carol you can do it some more

(Instrumental)

*Well, I was out cruisin',

getting late and I was losing

When I saw you walkin' my way

So nonchalant, I bet you get what you want

So do I, and I ain't losing today*

Oh Carol,

you got me eating my heart away

You got me counting my nights and days

Oh I'm floating on the milky way

Oh Carol,

nobody's done it before

Oh baby, you've opened the door

Oh Carol, you can do it some more

Oh Carol,

you got me eating my heart away

You got me counting my nights and days

Oh I'm floating on the milky

Fantastyczne, młody , zdrowy zespół  jeszcze wówczas wiele było przed nimi wspaniałych występów, Szkoda ,że czas jest  okrutny i beznadziejny i to dla wszystkich

actually, I believe FistMad is right - the song was not written originally for Smokie, it was performed a few years before them by an Australian band, without much success. So it is difficult to say whether Smokie "covered" it or not, certainly they made the song famous...

This song is really hot! I love it! MUST SEE! Well, this was so many years before I was born, but still I have to love it! Who can't love this (if we exclude Rammstein)?

and yes..it's the Other Smokie group with only Terry in it now that covers other songs & recorded "Have you ever seen the rain" by CCR(but this is not the " Real Smokie" with Chris Norman, pete & allan(and terry) they don't even compare to the "Smokie" with the original Members & especially with CHRIS NORMAN! it's not Smokie..with out him!!!

That song Living next door to alice was given to Smokie to Record. and it became a Hugh Hit in the us & canada. It is not a cover!! and if you knew anything about smokie you'd know that all 4 of the original members wrote most of their own songs! Chris wrote with Pete..and wrote on his own too, and Terry & Allan wrote together...and also wrote on their own as well. They covered some songs for fun once in a while..but most of them on their albums were theirs. that other smokie group may do covers

band called New World released it first :) a lot of Smokie songs are covers... as "have you ever seen the rain" or "i just died in your arms tonight", though i can't say i don't like them :P

"They just cover it" - er, no, it was written for Smokie by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman - unless you know something I don't.

@MrEburi Top comment, my cousin grew up with these lads, and they used to frequent his pub on a regular basis for "Lock ins!"
