Somewhere I have a number of casset tapes of Smiley Bates flat picking his guitar. Without any exaggeration whatsoever, this guy out picked Doc Watson by a long shot. I am not kidding. When I first heard it I couldn't believe it. Smiley never had the marketing behind him to make a huge commercial success and his instrumentals outperformed his vocals. Granted, with today's technology you can make a monkey sound like Garth Brooks but not then - you had to have it in you. Thanks for posting
