That is not completely true. During Mellon Collie, Adore and Machina James' got more imput in to the album as they were recorded more live than the previous albums, especially MC. I read in an interview with both James and Billy at the time of MC that Jame did about 50% of the lead parts on the record. If you listen to any live recordings with the guitars channels seperated you can hear that Billy actually plays alot of rhythm while James does alot of lead and solos. Billy play the main solos.

I don't Zeitgeist is nearly as bad as people say it is. It's not the Smashing Pumpkins album I was waiting for, but it was decent. I saw them live last year and they were awesome. I am very disappointed that Jimmy left the band, but then again I didn't think they should have called what they are doing now The Smashing Pumpkins. I hope the new stuff is going to be good at least, but that is all I can expect out of Billy these days. He is still a great guitarist.

Billy Corgan is definately a better guitarist than James (Billy claimed that D'arcy and James could barely play their instruments at first).The thing is that James, and even D'arcy, got way better as you can here in alot of live recordings in the 90s. When people say that Billy is a control freak I usually think they are clueless because Billy had to do what he had to do to make a good record. But, if you listen to live recordings you hear James playing solos 50% of the time. Sometime more.

True that. But then again, back then they were still striving for recognition. Regarding Mellon Collie, they were like "let's do this as if it were our last album" I guess Billy's not trying as much as he did before. Or he is, but it's just coming out all withered and crap.

there is definitely a lack of screaming on the new album,which sucks because he has probably the best scream in the world,along with kurt and probably nick oliveri.but the saddest thing from what ive heard is he has stopped screaming live aswel.i heard them playing bullet and he just sang the chorus,as if he was just going through the motions.zeitgeist s ok but its not a patch on siamese dream and mellon collie,not even close!
