I love how that audience was about 99.9% white, but that damn tune is so cool and the beat is so driving, the crowd was into it about as much as an all black audience would be. This is one of my top 2 or 3 Woodstock performances.

Sly and the Family Stone woke up the Woodstock crowd with their 3 a.m. set. Just watched a Funk documentary and they interviewed members of the band and they said the energy being transmitted between the crowd and the band was incredible. It was electric!!!

This is so good. In 1969 I went with my brother to the Spectrum in Philadelphia for $3.50 where we had seats in about the 10th row on the floor and got to see Ten Years After with Alvin Lee, Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart, Savoy Brown, The Mothers of Invention and Sly and the Family Stone. Sly wrapped up the night, dancing down the aisles singing "I want to take you HIGHER!" It was an amazing night and Sly killed.
