Slint - Tweez (1989)

Lyrics:

I knew these two people

And, um...there was a boy and a girl

And they liked to hang together

They were nice people

Um...they were the kind of people

That made you feel good to be around

Anyway, the thing was that...

One day, they started acting...

Kinda funny, kinda weird

They started being seen exchanging tokens of affection

And it was rumored that they were engaging in...

I think you know what I'm talking about

You know what happened to them?

You know what they did?

You know what they became?

You know what happened to them?

You know what they did?

You know what they became?

You know what happened to them?

You know what they did?

You know...?

I think the funny thing is that of all names given to genres, it's probably up there with the best reason... i mean hip-hop?? huh?? it's 'hip' and makes you 'hop' ??? lol. ever heard of Lucid Rivers dude?

it's not meaningless... a lot of genres have very loose meanings for their name.. rock? (because it makes you rock back and forth..) pop? (popular music) Grunge? (because it has a 'dirty' amp sound).... math rock? (the time signatures are normally quite complicated, especially compared to a standard 4/4 timing.. not sure if you really understand what i mean by that, but you can look up time signatures on wiki if not. To conclude, your failure to understand doesn't make it stupid. Hope that helps

LMGTFY: Math rock is a rhythmically complex, often guitar-based, style of experimental rock and indie rock[1] (...) It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords.

the difference is that with fruits they actually fall under specific families and sub species which are important to understand for pollination and pest cycles. so its not really the same... although I agree that sometimes having things categorized can be helpful, but also boring and misleading at the same time.

Not all music needs choruses.

Saying we shouldn't categorize music into genres is like saying we shouldn't categorize fruits into apples and oranges.

"math rock" is the stupidest name for a subgenre ever. meaningless

Slint can't be classified, as Scaruffi wrote they where a stylystic black-hole, favoring abstraction over the hedonistic tendancies of rock music, warping the genre all together

@sdhbassclef87 lmao being from the late eighties early nineties doesnt automatically qualify you as grunge. musically, Slint couldn't be further from the grunge movement.

@sdhbassclef87 grunge. lol. no one classifies Slint as grunge. It's not even close to grunge. Post rock/math rock, if anything.
