Shotty's Classic Series #9:

Breadcrumb Trail kicks off the seminal indie LP "Spiderland," renowned for its dynamic shifts and more famous closer "Good Morning, Captain." Using a repetitive, spindly riff, an everyday carnival trip is shrouded in malice with every lyric, before the chorus brings the descent into madness. Math rock par excellence!

What the hell is up with those time signatures in the verses of this song? I'm not an expert in the field of music, but it feels like the time signature changes every few seconds in the verses.

Most of the lyrics online say that the opening line Brian is singing is, "I stepped out onto the midway". But I here, "headway". Anyone really know?

Does anyone else here noise-rock, math-rock, and post-hardcore when listening to this album? I know this is a post-rock record, but I notice all those other genres when I listen to it more closely.

Pinback was also on Touch and Go Records. At the end of their song AFK, he sings "and I miss you, not in a Slint way, but I miss you".That is how I found Slint and am stoked I did.

I liked it...nice that they can work outside the 4/4 that so many pop musicians stick to & the vaguely Beatley/vaguely Beefhearty arpeggiated gtr turnaround was cool...but the vox were mixed too low.

To me this song always represented that beautiful feeling you get when you first fall in love with someone., it's like a roller coaster, it churns your stomach and the whole world seems like a carnival. "stopping at the top and starting down". Always got to me, I know this feeling so well.I don't know if I will ever feel that way again., If this was just a once in a life-time feeling, but this song encapsulates it perfectly.
