1-Apr Walsall Town Hall. The Fan club organised Slade's 25th Anniversary party. All of the group attended. The evening was notable for the first gathering for some years of all the original members of the pre Noddy Holder / Jim Lea line-up of The N'Betweens. Slade performed one song; Chuck Berry's 'Johnny B Goode'. This turned out to be the group's final ever true live appearance, discounting a few later mimed TV slots.

This footage was originally filmed by Ken Campbell.

I was there standing where the camera was, took my 3 sons who all had mirrored hats on and were watching from the balcony.

People in the West , like myself , have taken simple freedoms like this for granted over the years , but I DID think about the people in Russia , The Middle East , China , etc. , who had to get their music on the Black Market or via a closely knit underground network of friends. Well , I recently picked up a CD of "Slade on Stage". Would'nt you know? It was made in Russia! Welcome back to where Slade is legal....but LETHAL !

Once went to a sweet concert at the same time blockbuster was a hit, Waited weeks looking forward to it. Finaly the night came first song in someone hit brian connely with a coin, He stormed off stage then never came back on. shortest gig in history i think, Never got a refund, Never played another sweet record again.

Sad that Nod was not only miffed at having to do this one song but as stated in his book, couldn't understand why the other band members wanted to do more.Thick or what?.He could have shown more willing announced the break up of the band and went out with a bang.Instead he threw a strop and moaned about it all.I lost respect for Holder after his comments. It was pretty obvious that fans would want them to play. How little he knew of his fans.

I recall this very well, I was just in front of Jim with my then 3 year old son Patrick. I also remember some drunken prats spoiled the whole thing after Slade left the stage
