In 1989, Dave Hill and Noddy Holder did a cover version of The Everly Brothers' hit song "Crying in the Rain." They released "Crying In The Rain" as a 7" single and it was backed with "Wild Nites", written by Hill and Bill Hunt, on the Mooncrest label under the group name, Blessings In Disguise, both songs with Holder on lead vocals. In 1991, Hill followed it up with a further Blessings In Disguise single "Chance To Be" / "You're The Reason that I'm Strong" - which did not feature Holder. "Chance To Be" was a charity record composed by Daniel Somers and Colin Baines to raise money for Queen Alexandra College for the Blind in Birmingham.

Yes, I hear it. A light, distinctive tenor.

A-ha's version is great, too.

Unfortunately the Swedish band Aha released a version of the same song around the same time.Aha being the more popular at the time meant this never charted.

@carlphone Hi Carl, things are ok thanks. Heaven Knows is the purest mix of rock and pop you're ever likely to hear. A track from Slade in Flame which is less appreciated than the uplifting and mindblowing classics Far Far Away and How Does It Feel but in its own way is just as good having an irresistible bass hook and intro with a happy feel and intriguing lyric. The album is one of Slade's finest having only good to wonderful tracks on it. Glad you have 'discovered' it. LLTMS !!

@bigmagic96 HI there, everything O.K.? I heard Slade will play again in december. I have been marvelling at "Heaven knows" trying to make a proper upload here. Piece of genius. Slade are simply the best rockband ever.

@bigmagic96 It sounds better than A-HA, Simon Garfunkel or Johnny Logan for this matter. Amazing what Noddy and Jim produced.......

@carlphone Yes, he does, seems he's toned it down for the gentle nature of the song. Dave sounds good too with a Wonderin Y feel to the guitar. A very listenable version from two of rock's greatest. The B side is wonderful too. Such a shame they didn't release it as Slade.

@bigmagic96 Noddy sounds a lot like Mick Hucknall here, don t you think? He is such an amazing vocalist, incredible. Superlatives don t cover the versatility of the man. Epic. This cover sounds better than other versions and also better than the original.
