Mary Frances Penick (December 30, 1931 September 19, 2004), better known as Skeeter Davis, was an American country music singer best known for crossover pop music songs of the early 1960s.
During the 1960s, Skeeter was one of RCA's most successful country artists. She charted 38 country hits, 13 of which crossed over to the pop charts. Among these was what was to become her best-known song, the million-selling record "The End Of The World" which peaked at number two in both the U.S. country and pop charts in 1963, placing in the Top 10 for the year in both fields.

When Skeeter passed away a few years ago...they barely mentioned her name on a country western show...the producers and directors of that show should be ashamed of themselves...they should have played ''End Of The World''...while they were showing pictures of her in the backround...you guys SUCK!!11 years ago

A group called "The Original Caste" did the song first, and It was written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. All from Canada. Skeeter had the greatest success with it even though a group called Coven recorded it for the movie Billy Jack. So the song has made the rounds.11 years ago
