On lead poisoned wings, you try to singFreak beak shrieks are thrown at your confusing hueThe peacock screaming eyes show no mercy oh, oh no mercyPainted bird, it's absurdJust a tainted bird hurting their twisted nervePainted bird, it's absurdJust a tainted bird hurting their twisted nerveThe flock will make you choke on this sadistic jokeAnd the whippoorwills they make a dinIn laughing unison, you're Hitchcock carrionIn laughing unison, you're Hitchcock carrionCarry onPainted bird, it's absurdJust a tainted bird hurting their twisted nervePainted bird, it's absurdJust a tainted bird hurting their twisted nerveI hear your sorrow, may lose tomorrowYou'll lose you sorrowWhen a fated weather will cleanse awayThat painted feather and all that sorrow, sorrow, sorrowA coquette in fur purr for the painted birdConfound that dowdy flock with a sharp honed nerveBecause we're painted birds by our own designBy our own design, oh there's no more sorrow, sorrow, sorrowHave you heard about the painted birdJust a tainted bird hunting their twisted nerveWe've lost our sorrow, now it's tomorrow, tomorrowNo need to hide your feather under a fated weatherNo more sorrow, sorrowWe've lost our sorrowNow we're painted birdsMocking that twisted nerveIt's absurd, it's absurd, painted bird

I wonder if this song has anything to do with the Jerzy Kosinski novel of the same name? Great band. Great book.

Im wondering why Siouxsie and Robert Smith never did a song together... I mean, singing together....

I think Robert and steve severin remained friends but pretty sure smith still hasn't been forgiven even now after 30 years by siouxsie for pulling out of that tour...shame because today it would be fascinating to see them play a set together again

I love the Cure, and Robert Smith's a great talent, I can definitely see why Siouxsie and co. were pissed that he left them. They had just done an album together and were gaining momentum but Bob left them in the breeze and I don't think they ever really regained their footing.
