This was a really good performance, but Simon and Kara had already started their ploy to get her kicked off at this point.You'll notice that their feedback for Siobhan never made sense, and they would use non-descript, irrelevant words to describe her performances like "confusing" or "weird". They continuously called her belted mix register "screaming" as if to diminish those notes somehow, or Simon would say that she'd "hit them better before." I'm sorry, those notes were perfectly on pitch and they were powerful, so tell me in logical terms how she didn't hit them as well during this performance? And a few times they would even start talking about the other contestants during her critique, as Simon did here, to distract from the fact that their critique for Siobhan had no real point.Then the kiss of death is always "you're back!", which they used on her Any Man of Mine Performance even though it wasn't any better than this or Suspicious Minds (which both deserved good feedback actually).They tried to do the same thing to Adam Lambert in his season, but his talent was undeniable. Anyone too different or too talented I suppose...

Looking back on Idol I think Siobhan is one of my top five favorites to watch every week. I'll never forget the disappointment that really the whole country felt when she was mistakenly voted off, but she handled it with grace. She could have been a big star after Idol but didn't carry through with her Idol image and maybe didn't have good management.

HA HA! Simon is everytime telling the same: last week was good, this show was not. And so every clip with Siobhan, that I checked out. But this show was cool - so great opposition of her suspended voice vs blooming brass, and then going wild on her own - brilliant!

I know he's not a musician but he has some prestige due in part to his ear for music. Like many film critics are not filmmakers, but they understand film. Simon hates the over the top theatrics and "screaming" that some contestants do. That's why he didn't like Adam Lambert (nor me for that matter). I'm not sure if he wasn't a help to the contestants for that season but it seemed like genuine critique at least in this clip. However, all the American Idol judges tend to what you described.

Simon wasn't constructive at all. He spoke in vague generalities and really barely addressed her at all...most of his comments were for "everybody". He's not a musician and if he likes someone, he'll generally always like them, if not, he sputters about them not choosing the right song, not pushing hard enough, etc. He did the same thing to Adam Lambert. He decided early on he didn't like him and he was negative most of that season toward him (with the exception of Mad World).

What do you mean? He didn't critique her fashion sense, he critiqued her vocals. That's what he's supposed to be doing. You might not agree with his opinion but he tried to be constructive instead of saying something along the lines of "your outfit looks dreadful" which offers nothing to the contestant. I HATE when people talk about looking good rather than the actual singing, talent, or ability of an artist.

Simon Cowell is a crank. I can't imagine working with or for him. This may not have been Siobhan's finest moment, but it was scintillating nonetheless and I enjoyed it. Simon on the other hand is so full of himself that he can't apparently even bother to listen to the music. Probably the reason X-Factor is tanking.
