Bob Dylan tribute performance:

Two weeks after the Saturday Night Live appearance, she was set to perform "I Believe in You", at the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary tribute concert in Madison Square Garden. She was greeted by a thundering mixture of cheers and jeers. During the booing, Kris Kristofferson; (actor/singer), told her not to "let the bastards get you down", to which she replied, "I'm not down."... The noise eventually became so loud that O'Connor saw no point in starting the scheduled song. She called for the keyboard player to stop and the microphone to be turned up, and then screamed over the audience with an improvised, shouted rendition of "War"...

This time, she sang the song, stopping just after the part in which the lyrics talk about child abuse, emphasising the point of her previous action. She then looked straight to the audience for a second and left the stage. (Kristofferson then comforted her, as she cried)

if you think any of this has 'gotten better' now because 'most' people decades later agree/realize that Sinead O'Connor was correct/courageous in her accusations of the pope and the many in the catholic hierarchy who covered it all up, you are dead wrong. there may be more people willing to voice their opinions about such things... and maybe if Sinead O'Connor ripped up a picture of the pope on SNL *now* there would not be as much of a backlash... but the catholic church remains above all law, and their abuse has NOT stopped, but simply become even more hushed. Sinead not only 'knew about' such abuse in catholic institutions, she lived it. and people who had no clue about what they were protesting, but just had 'knee-jerk' reactions 'booed', and verbally screamed at a woman who HAD been abused by the church, and tried to bring attention to it for the many thousands who *are still being abused* by the church. appalling. you can all throw out your "WWJD" (what would Jesus do?) paraphernalia, because if you have truly read the Gospels you will know that Jesus Christ would have done ( and did do in HIS time) the equivalent of what Sinead did. not blindly defend a church that is abusing children and covering it up.and really? Joe Pesci?? these actors/celebrities make fun of/dishonor the truly Faithful all of the time... make fun of/dishonor Jesus Christ all of the time... and you cheer because someone like him says he would 'slap her'?? he has no Faith or Honor towards Christ! sure, *slap* someone who was abused/victimized by the church in her own life, while you wallow in your own lack of true Faith. you do know that slapping someone who was abused as a child like that IS a sin right?? oh, but you got a standing ovation. that's all that counts. and with all of her overblown, shameless behavior, poor Madonna couldnt get so much publicity overnight as a sincere courageous woman who made one statement with her clothes on did, so she also had to make fun of her. yeah, oh i am sure Madonna was offended by an offense against the catholic church... give me a break.until the church, as well as *any* organization that takes advantage of, or abuses people and their power over them is stopped....WAR.

She fronted them and won, not easy to do with this number of hooligans. She has every right to express her views, that's what artist's do. A woman with balls.

A very brave woman. She was not there to be the clown, she was there to say the truth and still does it. Thanks for it!

Religion as a word can be read to mean many things. For instance I'm an ELCA Lutheran. What does that mean? I believe in grace and it's saving power. I believe in the real person-hood of Jesus Christ. I believe the tomb was empty. The body that laid in it was resurrected and that Jesus is real. That's the core of it. It is so simple a child could explain it. I'm an educated person with my masters degree. I've taken philosophy, critical thinking, logic and I find validity in them. I see hope, love and faith. I don't need to be part of a particular political party. I do not support imposing some moral code that others prefer not to follow. I believe in Jesus. I love Jesus. One day I will see him in the flesh. I see him now daily in little actions and other people. I believe in you Lord just like my sister Sinead.

I love Sinead. She is a rare, fierce, beautiful, brave, incredibly talented artist. I feel sorry for people who don't 'get' her because they are really missing out on someone amazingly special and gifted. She is NOT like any other singer. Who is there today that can compare to Sinead? No one!

One of the bravest artists of all time, and it ruined her carrier. And gave her a nervous breakdown. 25 years after there is finally a pope who is capable of doing something about child abuse in the catholic religion. He just have to fix the Vatican Bank first!
