@ masquesandmirrors....have you ever lived/been in Glasgow ? SM went downhill the day DF left. This band ain't no more than a couple of Art school (benefit of the doubt there) tweekers since DF & Mr McGee left. You quote 'Graffiti Soul', my you really are a connoisseur of the groundrock that WAS Simple MInds. Away n discuss/produce something consumable like bird shit

I agree with Christos1973, it's hard to imagine that at such a young age they were able to create such imaginative, avant-garde, and original music. The different textures and layers of sounds portrays such a dreamy musical landscape that it has never been heard before or since. I lose myself in this music like I would in works by Beethoven, Marin Marais, Albeniz, Fernando Sor, or Rachmaninoff. The subtle guitar riffs, the hypnotizing synths, and the pulsating bass guitar are to be cherished!

I sorely miss the contributions made by Derek, Mick and Brian but after the 5X5 shows I've sort of convinced myself that the current Simple Minds line-up is still very good without them. At the end of the day, the 'real' Simple Minds are working on a return-to-roots new album (inspired by Reel to Real and Empires & Dance) and Derek & Brian are writing a new album with their own band based on the sound of Sons & Fascination / NGD (don't know if Mick is involved). Very exciting time to be a fan...

Badly wrong? Really? I have been enjoying this band since the early 80's too, continued into the nineties and into the millennium up to now, and yeah, some songs I could leave alone, but the bulk of ALL their catalogue I loved, especially Graffiti Soul. It's the 'oh boo hoo, needs the almighty god Forbes to make them...oh yes, the word 'relevant' again. Meh, they did just fine without him. IMHO. Jim has now truly turned his back on the fans of SM's since 1983 because of that *brainwashing*. :(

Makes me proud to say I was a huge Simple Minds fan in the early 80s. Can't wait to see them in Dublin in March.

Such an honour to say that I was there. It has to go down as the best I have ever seen them since 91. Truely magical night.

it was an experimental tune, it glides in a different levels and creates an atmosphere. its a top quality piece of music

Ged Grimes could turn this band around. Let 5x5 be the start of great things

@MrHeathblue he is a VERY talented man. I am a lifelong Forbes addict, but admit this man has not only nailed it but in all honesty surpassed the original. i must admit Burchill brings the solo in too early - the rhythmic Verse 1 version on the album is sorely missed here, and sums up where the band went so badly wrong. Ho hum....
