You'd like to think that Westinghouse (whose motto was "The quality goes in BEFORE the name goes on."), whose founder stole the most important electricalpatents IN THE WORLD EVER from Nikola Tesla, would have a slightly bettersound recording system for the Cowsills on Mike's show. well, NOPE, sorry. Butwatch the other TV appearance (teenidol1017), same song, MUCH better.

The drummer looks an awful lot like a younger Mike Nesmith.

First of all, I love this song. Second, I love the band's raw garage sound. They really were a great live band. Lastly, Susan is the grooviest girl I have ever seen. That girl could MOVE.

This is from The Cowsills' appearance on "The Mike Douglas Show" (Group W/Westinghouse Productions) on September 15, 1970. There is another video on You Tube of The Cowsills from this same television appearance, performing a cover of The Beatles' "When I'm Sixty-Four."

On this day in 1969 {October 11th} "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" by the Cowsills entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #74 & spent 7 weeks on the Top 100... Three other versions have charted; The Springfields {#20 in 1962}, Jody Miller {#54 in 1965}, & Linda Ronstadt {#67 in 1974}. It was the Cowsills eighth & finally Top 100 record, with three making the Top 10 {"The Rain, The Park, & Other Things" {#2 in 1967}, "Indian Lake" {#10 in 1968} & "Hair" {#2 in 1969}.

If Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber formed a super-group, they wouldn't be able to produce harmonies anywhere close to this.

Susan could give James Brown a run for his money with her "Funky Chicken!"

Which is why music like this lifted people up. It was escapism.

Sir or madam, I hate to crack your rose colored glasses but those days may have been innocent for you and I because of our youth, but let's see what was actually going on in 68-69. Vietnam war, hippie head busting at the Chicago Democratic convention, RFK and MLK assassinated, race riots throughout American cities, Nixon's election, My Lai massacre, anti war protests, extreme generation gap, Altamont. I could go on. Those were very, very turbulent times.
