Correct somewhat with both comments. Nailed the Pavement connection, easy, but they were also connected to Sebadoh when they spent their time in Louisville. They used to throw huge derby parties and it was common to see members of bands like Sebadoh, Slint, and Rodan in attendance. The Barlow Jews connection lies in the embodiment of a woman known as "flame" was big indie slut who bounced between the states and Canada. She hung with both bands, along with many others lol

I don't really think Sebadoh is connected to Silver Jews. I read an interview with Berman saying that he always wondered why people would ask him if he knew Lou Barlow and things like that. Due to his addiction, Berman spent the 90s pretty much secluded and never really toured. Pavement on the other hand is connected and Malkmus' lyrics are good in a completely different way.
