Taken from the album SIDE 3.

Dave Smalley: I really loved it. "Should I Wait" is one of my favourite songs I ever wrote. I feel that song communicated very simply and very honestly saying exactly what people feel but they can't put into words.

Should I Wait

(David Smalley)

Don't you know you're gonna lose

If you love somebody that don't love you?

You'll believe him when he's untrue

But I can't bear seein' him break your heart in two

I've let it happen much too long

Should I wait, hopin' you'll find out on your own?

It's me who's loved you for so long

If he hurts you with his lies

Don't let it take too long to open your eyes

You're gonna see through his disguise

But I can't bear seein' him break your heart in two

I'm tired of tryin' to play it cool

Should I wait, hopin' you'll find out on your own?

The one you love is just a fool

If I had the chance I'd make you see

When you fall in love how it should be

A love that makes you sad can only turn out bad

So I'll be hangin' 'round until you're free

Don't you know you're gonna lose

If you love somebody that don't love you?

You'll believe him when he's untrue

But I can't bear seein' him break your heart in two

I've let it happen much too long

Should I wait, hopin' you'll find out on your own?

It's me who's loved you for so long

Forty years and I could still listen to this album all day. I was too young to understand the innuendo but I have always loved the melodies and the harmonies of these guys. SUCH good 'makeout' songs.

The Raspberries deserve to be as celebrated as other big names in power pop like Big Star or Cheap Trick!

Dave was right....it's a solid tune. The harmonies really boost it (never hurts having an Eric Carmen doing harmony), but of his Raspberries catalogue, this is one of his better tunes.

Anyone know where I can find the guitar tab for this great old song? It's not anywhere I can find.

A huge fan of the old Eagles and Raspberries; this is very Eagle-esque; recorded at around the same time (first LPs of each band came out in 72 if I am not mistaken.: Dave brought a nice country vibe to the "Berries and all the boys could sing and harmonize....great track.

Eric Carmen was the standout singer in the Raspberries in terms of range and power, but Dave Smalley's songs are among my favorite Raspberries songs. I think this one is his best, lyrically and melodically.

@Lisarata Good Catch! Just like 'I Don't Know What I Want (But I Want it Now) sounds like Alice Cooper, Nobody Knows is McCarntney et al. They were the best, the Raspberries!

I think this guy Dave Smalley was quite a dish. I like this song a lot. It sounds like an Eagles song recorded as a wall of sound.
