On this day in 1964 {August 20th} Shirley Bassey recorded "Goldfinger" at the EMI's Abbey Road studios in London, England... It was produced by George Martin and Jimmy Page, as a session guitarist, played on the recording... Five months later on January 30th, 1965 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... All three were born in January; Ms. Bassey on Jan. 8th, 1937, Mr. Page on Jan. 9th, 1944, and Mr. Martin on Jan. 3rd, 1926...

Thanks! Well I might have been a bit quick in my comment, what I meant is that there is a lack of talent in the top selling singers today. Some of them are in fact great but most of them is getting their attention from everything else. There is less attention to the actuall singing. Going to take a look at those you mentioned :)

Oh, there's plenty of talent out there, just not all in the west. Try South Korea's singers. There are a few who'll knock your socks off. Hyorin; Taeyeon; Gain; IU; Lena Park; Ailee & Tiffany (American but couldn't get a contract here, now a star over there, America doesn't recognise Asian talent); lots more. I accidently came across Kpop 3 years ago, and am astounded at the number of really good female singers.

On this day in 1965 {January 30th} two versions of "Goldfinger" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... Shirley Bassey's version peaked at #8 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... While the version by Jack LaForge reached #96 and stayed on the Top 100 for 5 weeks... Also in 1965 two other versions entered the Top 100; Billy Strange took it to #55 and its composer, John Barry, made it to #72 on the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Barry {1933 - 2011} and Mr. Strange {1930 - 2012}...

Hey I'm not arguing, she's great & this is killer by anyone else's standard... just check her out at Albert Hall 7 years earlier in 1973 [look up youtube clip for " Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger (Live at Royal Albert Hall)'] where she just transfixes me! I feel like I'm in a crosswalk mesmerized by an oncoming gorgeous Ferrari that I know will just flatten me in a second & not being able to (or wanting to) move! Me-Oww baby!

I saw her on Graham Norton not too long ago, she seems very down to Earth and normal. She's quite a funny woman!
