1987 (Shirley performs in Berlin celebrating the cities' existence for 750 years)
ABOUT the song, Goldfinger:
Shirley recorded two versions of this song. She recorded the soundtrack to the movie, 'Goldfinger' and then she recorded a version to be sold as a 'single.' Both versions are superb, but I believe she holds that big last note longer here, on the 'Single' version! Simply amazing! And, based on the length of this last note it most likely was during the recording of this version where John Barry kept telling Shirley to 'hold it,,,,hold it,,,,hold it' until as Shirley says, "I almost passed out!"
ABOUT the song, Goldfinger:
"Goldfinger" was the title song from the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. Composed by John Barry and with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, the song was performed by Shirley Bassey for the film's opening and closing title sequences, as well as the soundtrack album release. The single release of the song gave Bassey her only Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit, peaking at number eight; in the United Kingdom, the single reached #21. In 2008, the single was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
LYRICS:
Goldfinger
He's the man, the man with the Midas touch
A spider's touch
Such a cold finger
Beckons you to enter his web of sin
But don't go in
Golden words he will pour in your ear
But his lies can't disguise what you fear
For a golden girl knows when he's kissed her
It's the kiss of death ...
From Mister Goldfinger
Pretty girl, beware of his heart of gold
This heart is cold
Golden words he will pour in your ear
But his lies can't disguise what you fear
For a golden girl knows when he's kissed her
It's the kiss of death ...
From Mister Goldfinger
Pretty girl, beware of his heart of gold
This heart is cold
He loves only gold
Only gold
He loves gold
He loves only gold
Only gold
He loves gold
ABOUT - Almost Like Being In Love:
"Almost Like Being in Love" is a popular song published in 1947. The music was written by Frederick Loewe, and the lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner.
The song was made popular by David Brooks and Marion Bell in the musical Brigadoon. It was later performed in the 1954 film version by Gene Kelly.
The song was revived in a downbeat ballad version by singer Michael Johnson (#32, 1978). This song was also made popular by British singing sensation Dame Shirley Bassey, and, Nat King Cole recorded more than one version of the song. Other singers who have recorded "Almost Like Being in Love" include Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra. A later version by Nat King Cole was used as the closing song in the 1993 movie Groundhog Day which starred Bill Murray. In 1961, Judy Garland performed the song as a medley with "This Can't Be Love" at the "Judy at Carnegie Hall" concert, and Shirley Bassey also performs these two songs as a medley.
ABOUT the song, 'This Can't Be Love'
"This Can't Be Love" is a show tune and a popular song from the 1938 Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse. It was also included in the 1962 musical film, Billy Rose's Jumbo, though most of the songs in that film came from the 1935 Rodgers & Hart musical Jumbo. Richard Rodgers' lyrics poke fun of the common depiction of love in popular songs as a host of malignant symptoms, saying, "This can't be love because I feel too well."
LYRICS:
What a day this has been
What a rare mood I'm in
Why, it's almost like being in love
There's a smile on my face
For the whole human race
Why, it's almost like being in love
And the music of life seems to be
Like a bell that is ringing for me
And from the way that I feel
When that bell starts to peal
I would swear I was falling
Swear I was falling
Why it's almost like being in love
This can't be love, because I feel so well,
No sobs, no sorrows, no sighs.
This can't be love; I get no dizzy spells,
My head is not in the skies.
My heart does not stand still, just hear it beat.
This is too sweet to be love.
This can't be love, because I feel so well,
But still I love to look in your eyes.
And the music of life seems to be
Like a bell that is ringing for me
And from the way that I feel
When that bell starts to peal
I would swear I was falling
Swear I was falling
Why it's almost like being in love
It's almost like being.....
In Love!
