@rockmusic111..Kurt was def the sensation...and was good...not the best song wrirter since John Lennon...many as good/better ...but In my opinion Layne Staley was much better by far than Kurt in all ways except guitar...

Comparing Shinedown to Nirvana is ridiculous. It is rock's equivalent to "apples and oranges". If your focus is on serious lyrics, it's Nirvana. if it is vocals it is definitely Shinedown, which is probably the point of the post.
