"She Caught the Katy (And Left Me a Mule To Ride)" is a blues standard written by Taj Mahal and James Rachell. The song was first recorded for Taj Mahal's 1968 album The Natch'l Blues, and is one of Mahal's most famous tunes. It has since been covered many times, and is included on the soundtrack for the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers (the song greets Jake Blues as he leaves prison, in the beginning of the movie). According to John Belushi's widow, it was Belushi's favorite blues song.

A blues standard as much as it is a classic, Taj is a powerhouse deep souled bluesman. Well done song and one of my favorites I reply often. That harp sound of his is literally THE BLUES all on its own sound, even John Popper should be jealous, as he does overdo many songs, although he is a superb player himself, the blues needsto be a little bit less John Poppers speed or dexterity, pay close attention to Taj Mr Popper , may learn something about taking it easy and mellow.

Yank Rachell was singin this song before Taj was a gleam in his Daddy's eye. I'm not sure if TM ever gave Yank a cent for recording it. Late in life John Sebastian came to Indy to record with Yank. Before John left he gave Yank a new mandolin. When he got back to New York John lobbied for Yank to get his royalty check from The Blues Brothers film. That check helped Yank in his final years as he was on dialysis and living on a small social security pension..
