THE SWINGIN' TIME SHOW 9/3/1966

SHADES OF BLUE - OH HOW HAPPY (RARE LIVE VIDEO FOOTAGE). AT LAST I'VE GOT A BETTER VIDEO OF THIS GROUP SINGING THIS :-) GROUP MEMBERS INCLUDED NICK MARINELLI, ERNIE DERNAI, LINDA ALLEN AND BOB KERR.THE SHADES OF BLUE WERE AN AMERICAN BLUE - EYED SOUL VOCAL GROUP FROM LIVONIA, MICHIGAN. A SUBURB OF DETROIT. THEIR BIGGEST HIT WAS 'OH HOW HAPPY' IN 1966, WRITTEN BY EDWIN STARR, WHICH REACHED NUMBER 12 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100 CHART, NUMBER 16 ON THE US BILLBOARD R&B CHART, AND THE TOP 10 IN CANADA. THAT SAME YEAR THE SONG 'LONELY SUMMER', AGAIN WRITTEN BY STARR, REACHED NUMBER 72, AND THEN 'HAPPINESS' PEAKED AT NUMBER 78 IN THE HOT 100. THE GROUPS LATER SINGLE FAILED TO CHART AND THEY DISBANDED IN 1970.

I remember riding a bus in Brooklyn with friends. We were teenagers and a young man was on the bus with one of those prehistoric boom boxes. He really was just a boy back from vietnam. Away from home for a long time. So he was playing this song like it was new and some of my friends giggled. I didn't. I sat next to him and sang along. It was this song and after all these decades I love this song and remember that young soldier who was on the bus with me that summer night..Oh how happy that has made me...

Bob Kerr and Linda Allen are my parents! :) So proud of all their accomplishments and so happy to see this video, as they are few and far between! Art Cervi was their tour manager, so fun to see the card too! Love seeing the old footage of them performing because I was just a baby when "Oh How Happy" hit the charts and they went on tour. Thank you for sharing this, it means the world to me! (And I love reading all the wonderful comments...makes my heart happy!) I will share this with my mom as well...she will be happy to see it too....but unfortunately my dad passed away almost 9 yrs ago. I know he would've really been thrilled to know that so many people still love his music! Thank you again!
