didn't wanna start an argument. but why do ppl trash americans while using american software (like apple or microsoft), using american search engines (google or yahoo) get on an american site (like twitter, facebook, or youtube)? americans didn't own everything, but americans do own the products you use to trash us.

All you have to do is look up Bowie's bio on wikipedia and he names many American musicians as his influence: Elvis Presley, Platters, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc. Like I said, Bowie's music is here thanks to the influence of American musicians.

American pop music would not exist without African and European vernacular music and instrumentation. It did not suddenly spring up fully formed in America one day. Like all musical styles it is a synthesis of pre-existing genres. And if you want to know who David Bowie's influences are, look at his covers album Pin Ups. There are no American acts represented on it.

if you guys wanna trash americans, go ahead. but why do it on an american site? can't tell you how many times i've seen ppl trash americans on youtube, twitter, facebook, amazon, and other american sites saying, "americans don't own everything." well, americans certainly do own the website you're using to trash them.

I never said America invented everything. But David Bowie's music was entirely influenced by American pop music. Doesn't matter if it's British or Portuguese, David Bowie wouldn't be here if it weren't for American music. Fact.

The point is you're making negative comments against Americans on a site started by Americans, while you listen to pop music, which is created by Americans, and Seu Jorge's songs were featured in an American movie. That's idiotic. Perhaps I should go to Mexico and make fun of people who eat tacos, wear sombreros, and dance in long, pointy shoes.

It's not an oversimplification. It is a fact. Pop culture and pop music originated in the U.S. It does not matter what David Bowie's nationality is. His music is influenced by U.S. music. Seu Jorge was able to make this song because he was featured on an American movie. As a result, you would not have this music without Americans, you idiot.

I really have no idea what's the point of your comment. As far as I'm aware, though, the US isn't a socialist republic, so Youtube is most likely owned by its creators or whoever they sold it to... seriously what was the point of this anyways? Don't get me wrong, I don't really have anything against Americans and I generally try not to be as prejudicious as in my other comments... people like you make it real hard, though.

Quite a lot more than what you could imagine, probably. But yeah, too bad David Bowie isn't either pop music nor American. That's quite a nice way to overly simplify pop culture and its origins anyways.

Americans think they own youtube too. Perhaps because it was created by Americans. Not Mexicans.

What would foreigners know about pop music anyways? Americans invented pop music (and pop culture in general). This music wouldn't exist without America.

So by saying North Americans you mean they only own Mexico and Canada? I hate having to call them Americans almost as much as I hate it when they say "America" to refer to the United States, but it seems to be the only existant demonym in English for people from the US. Don't worry though, I don't say "americanos" when speaking Spanish. Estadounidenses... Yanquis :)

I think you are referring to North Americans, people in US do not own all America (although they believe this)

This is Seu Jorge interpreting David Bowie, not John Williams interpreting Tárrega. I personally enjoy the sound of the fingers sliding over the strings, don't think you have heard much Brazilian popular music, but it's quite common in that kind of music. A good sense of functional harmony, that's what really counts as technique in this type of music, and Seu Jorge has it. Hehe, Americans, what would they know about spanish/classical guitar anyways? (:
