I'm guessing the makers of this show hadn't heard of the real band behind "The Book of Love."

I showed this clip to mein sister and she said something along the lines of Gina sounding like a squee-ing teenage fangirl. I pointed out that since David was in the clip, Gina was most likely still a teenager. But it's kind of funny seeing her like this.

R.I.P. Northern Calloway (1948-1990) (David), Richard Hunt (1951-1992) (Fat Blue Monotone), Jeff Moss (1942-1998) (Big Jeffy) and Jerry Nelson (1934-2012) (Little Jerry).

It's a little sad to see these later shows with David, considering he wasn't around much longer after this, and he looked terrible (after all the mental, meds and drug problems he was battling the last ten years of his life). Plus, he tried to propose to Gina at her high school when she was just 17, which was the final straw, and got him fired from the show.

I think I like Little Chrissy and Rockin' Richard better.

Seeing as Little Jerry and the Monotones were around since the early 1970s, maybe they tried to do something else in the 1980s, the newer music genres, but it didn't go over well with the public, so they went back to what they knew, the doo-wop style, and continued to stay popular.

@wileyk209zback Yeah, but "the coolest rock group in America" in the late 80's would not still be singing doo-wop.
