Shame they did not make official music videos of their songs in the 60's and 70's.

What ever version you listen to, this song is awesome because Paul Simon tells us a story.

This is so strange...

The final version is so much better than this. I am glad he kept working on it.

@noahf67 That's a great statement. The White Album was a very experimental series of songs, and "Save The Life Of My Child" is a rare instance in which Simon & Garfunkel experimented with their sound in a similar yet unique way.

Where'd you find this demo?

Raw Moog recording! Very few instances of those back then without studio engineering corrections.

man, I like this better, actually, you can hear melody better, some of the lyrics better (the caption cried...) some worse (Mc Dougall's line....). But this one would have been nice as an extra with the Bookends album....

This version is just as great as the studio but raw.

Music Revisited

@leon723 Great point, some real nice examples are Paul's unfinished "Let Me Live In Your City" from There Goes Rhymin' Simon and the original demos of "The Coast" and "Spirit Voices" from Rhythm of the Saints. He's got so much to say its really a miracle when we get to hear the different versions.

The demos posted on YouTube, not just this one but several others, show that Simon played with the lyrics up to the end, and almost every change was an improvement -- one exception. The final version has an "atmosphere of freaky holiday," which now seems dated. I like "the spotlight held the boy against the sky" better.
