I was a preteen when this came out, I didn't quite understand the lyrics just yet, but the beat helped imbed the lyrics in my brain. As the years passed and growing up was difficult, more and more of the lyrics made sense. From encountering people I used to associate with believing gay people were bad, struggling with money and relationships and overbearing parents... This song always brought comfort and I believe shaped me into the human being I am today. I know it's a bit corny for pop these days, but the lyrics are so powerful and withstanding. Really, whenever I hear this it reminds me how bad I want to reach out to people and tell them it will be alright (: Wish I could thank them personally for this song. (:
