"It Might as Well Be Spring" is a song from the 1945 film, State Fair. With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year.

Sarah is accompanied by George Treadwell and His All-Stars, Miles Davis (trumpet), Budd Johnson (tenor), Benny Green (trombone), Tony Scott (clarinet), Jimmy Jones (piano), Billy Taylor, Jr. (bass), J. C. Heard (drums) and Freddie Green (guitar). Recorded in New York City, Apollo Theatre, May 18, 1950. (Columbia Records)

I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm,

I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string.

I'd say that I had spring fever,

But I know it isn't spring.

I'm starry-eyed and vaguely discontented

Like a nightingale without a song to sing.

Oh, why should I have spring fever

When it isn't even spring?

I keep wishing I were somewhere else,

Walking down a strange new street.

Hearing words that I have never heard

From a man I've yet to meet.

I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams,

I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing.

I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud

Or a robin on the wing.

But I feel so gay,

In a melancholy way,

That it might as well be spring,

And that's why I feel this way

And yet I know it's not spring today

But it might as well be spring.

Thank you so much for this beautiful song! We love Miles Davis and Sarah-they're both so talented, and a great inspiration to us! We're a jazz trio who sing in harmony, and are trying to spread recognition for lovely music like this-we need more of the 'golden era' music in today's generation! We'd be so grateful if you could possibly have a look at our videos, and maybe even like and subscribe if you have the time! Thanks you so much :) Lots of love, The Rosettes xxxx
