So I looked up the ‘meaning’ of the word ‘Yellow’ in the song and was very surprised to read that it does not mean anything. Something about a yellow-pages phone book and that it sounded right in the song. I always thought it was euphemism for gold and being something very precious and dear in a way that was not material. Think Midas and how he would not value gold, but instead would greatly value life and the people in his life. He might use the word ‘yellow’ so that others would not get a material impression of what he valued. Coming from a very successful artist, it just made sense that the artist would have a Midas-like perspective.
