On 1st July 2011 Montreux hosted the reunion of two master guitarists Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin with their Invitation To Illumination concert. Both musicians have been regulars at Montreux across the years but this was the first time they headlined their own concert together. The show features most of the tracks from their classic 1973 album "Love Devotion Surrender" mixed in with a wealth of other material. The evening was a showcase of supreme musical virtuosity and spirituality and typified the approach of these two great artists. It is certainly a performance not to be missed.

my comments were more directed towards metamorpoisis67, if you read his comments he seems to presume much of what he probably doesn't know about the people he judges.

Have to disagree w/ metamorphosis67 & Santiago Orozco. The difference in the two styles is that John is a musical technician. He feels the need to show the incredible chops he has and to keep adding to his technical repertoire. He plays more for the musician than the casual listener. Santana is playing less what he can do and more of what he feels. Singers are a big part of his musical influence. Think about probably his best known solo: Black Magic Woman; you can sing the whole thing. Can you really sing along w/John when he gets going? It's kind of like the difference between be-boppers and the West Coast Cool Schoolers. It's not Paul Desmond can't Jam up tempo (Jazz at Oberlin);or that Diz can't slow it down (Oscar Peterson Jam; Montreux). It's their approaches. First Jazz single to go gold: Salt Peanuts or Take 5?

For years i always thought Terri Lyne Carrington was the best female drummer ever and i still do, but after seeing this and watching Cindy Blackman Santana in action, all i have to say is WOW!!!!!! Terri is no slouch on the kit but Cindy is just a complete badass on the drums.

two guys that can't get through standard changes, ironically, more famous than all of the guitarists than can, put together.

Santana and Eddie Van Halen both haven't improved their guitar techniques even one iota since their first albums. Actually they have gone backwards. Neither is even remotely in the same league as McLaughlin or Holdsworth. You'd think that with all that money, they could at least take a few lessons or learn how to read music to improve themselves but their gigantic egos block the way.
