I was there too: the sound mixing was of its time and sort of "hit and miss". on that night there was a lot of distortion, and the non-electronic instruments were drowned out. some people were booing ,and it freaked me out. I wanted to kill them, it was my first Santana concert ever. I lived in Washington Hts {Manhattan,NYC} . we took the subway down to the Beacon in the 70's and B'way. this beautiful Dominican girl was my date, and her name was Fiordalisa . i'll leave it there..

It was Carlos alone on the acoustic guitar.

I just wanna know while you were there if it was Carlos who played the whole acoustic guitar intro? It sounds like him but sometimes he had an additional guitarist on tour or the bass- player doing some acoustics even somebody else playing part of the song while Carlos played other parts even within the same song...Carlos can surprise sometimes.. seen him 50 times and sometimes he playes simplistic and almost bad on acoustic or electric accord-wise and then brilliant in one song... He is best

Increíble el trabajo en la guitarra acústica. Si la hubiera procurado más, estaríamos hablando de un guitarrista aún más completo. Genial.

You have some history to tell then. I hope seeing Carlos and his bandmates before he retires.

*Mind-blowing stuff you find on the Internet, episode 1,237,658: I was at this show!*This was the opening number. Carlos stage left in the white suit and hat pictured, sitting on a stool, the stage enveloped by potted palms and roses in vases. All dark except for a follow spot on Santana, with a Spanish guitar in hand. As his playing built to an early crescendo the stage lights suddenly came up, revealing the entire band as they joined the tune and proceeded to do the voodoo that Santana does best. A great night.
