When critiquing Salem or helps to have a strong foundation in punk and black metal aural aesthetics. If you don't approach it from a fundamentally punk perspective you're bound to misinterpret the approach. You have to have a very diverse knowledge of anti establishment musical background to be able to appreciate this music and get the so called "chills" from it, unfortunately for many listeners because i feel it's lost on them.

I really like Salem's sound and their concept - sometimes I feel like they just need to spend more time refining some of their ideas. They're really onto something... but I can understand why some people think they are garbage. It does sound pretty shitty if you're not in the right mood, or you only hear 15 seconds of it... it takes a while for the melodies to really sink in, and it can take patience. But I think that's what it's about - I'd still rather hear Salem playing than some pussy pop group or flavor-of-the-month hip-hop douche.
