Criminally neglected, prodigal sons of Black Sabbath, embodied evolution of Doom

Metal. Too real and true for the American Media to even bother promoting.

Bought this album back in 1987. I loved it then, but I probably love it more now, timeless.

i can get something approaching Dave's tone from 'born too late'. shine sg strung with 10's into a little big muff with vol at 12'o clock, tone att 11 o'clock and sustain up full into a marshall combi on the clean channel with the gain and bass all the way up and the mid and treble off completely. it's great for jamming along to vitus at home :)

Isn't there some type of pshychodelic drug that makes you think you're riding a white horse? Thats off subject...great band!

"Tiny Hoofprints On My Arm..." rather give it away somehow. Anyway, St. Vitus should combine this with a cover of 'My Lovely Horse' (c/o Fras Crilly and McGuire) during their live set, or just say Fuck You, I've Got A Horse Outside. I'll get my coat.

@RichardStayne ACTUALLY, im pretty sure his secret is he uses a wah pedal AFTER his distortion, this way he can control how much treble is processed, (ie none by keeping the pedal all the way back, boosting bass) and he can slowly rock it forward to split your eardrums with supreme treble

@sakalak That makes sense....You can hear that effect in the intro of "Clear Windowpane". It does sound to me like Dave hits the chord first then rocks the Crybaby back and leaves it there. Maybe he uses 2 wahs like Michael Schenker? Leave one at a certain setting then rock the other one around for the wah effect?

@RichardStayne Okay, this actually works really well on a clean amp with a lot of overhead, but: Treb - 5, Mid - 6, Bass - 6, high gain fuzz, and a Crybaby rocked all of the way back.

I hate to admit this, but in some ways I'm glad today that St Vitus didn't 'make it' and were ignored. As a result of not getting the commercial recognition they deserved, today they're not lumped in with all the brainless thrash-metallers and glammy posers of '80s heavy rock. They're seen in much the same way as MC5, The Stooges and The Velvet Underground are seen in the context of '60s and early '70s rock. That's a positive on an artistic level, if not a financial level.

@RichardStayne it's probably some old Ampeg amps at 11 man, the treble is way down too, but yeah, it is a classic doom sound. Thanks for your comment.

I really need to bump this. This album has been one of my absolute favorites ever since it came out. I first heard Saint Vitus on an SST sampler cassette I had way back then, and I ran out to find the Hallows Victim album because of it. But.....even after all these years I wish I knew the secret of that guitar tone. It's like all the EQ knobs are on 0 or something. I haven't heard that sound before or after Saint Vitus, nor have I been able to replicate it satisfactorily.

good god stop me ! go scotty go , the kid's from the hood (223rd) grow up to step onto the big stage and blow the mf'r down, not hard to see the influence from sabbath when we wore the grooves out of masters of reality. hey mark , you never mentioned playing bass, it was allways dirtbikes re member ? how about looking up ( what was her name ? angie ? ) skirt while she took role in homeroom ?
