i heard this track in a clothing shop a couple of days ago and was immediately captivated by it. its such a great track but would love someone to post a clean version which does not jump around like this one. and to all of u comparing this to kylie minogue - give me a fucking break. this is a class disco pop record. kylie minogue's music is only worth tipping in the bin - pure garbage!!

Last Days of Disco is the strongest track.

It's truly gratifying to hear Sarah still riding a billowing beat and teasing us on after all these years. She's a true princess of the groove. The only team out there that can ride the rhythm this entrancingly is Dicey and Paprika, especially in their deconstruction of "Edge of Seventeen."

Not directly, but they talk about it a lot in the recent reissues of the old albums. They laughed about how they had the huge hit with "He's on the Phone" and then completely failed to follow it up with anything for ages. The new sleevenotes for Tiger Bay say specifically "I still think it needed a couple more punchy pop songs." It just seems like they want to sell some records finally :D

I agree. Tales From Turnpike House was much better. I felt like they were finally graduating to a higher level of song craftmaship. This feels a little like a step back.

Why? Did you hear that they were trying to be more mainstream with this album?

I disagree. T.F.T.H. was superior, not that this album is bad.

It has grown on me, the rest of the album is just sensational! When I heard The Answer song, I knew there was going to be more great stuff on the whole CD. This one is much better than turnpike House!

It's curious really, that Saint Etienne have always been such a perfect pop band, but they've never really exploited that by putting out something that was fashionable right there and then - going on the strength of the sleevenotes in the reissues (particularly for Tiger Bay), they seem to really regret that. And who can blame them for giving it a go - especially when it's turned out this good?
