My band used to cover this song way... way back in the day. It's all coming back now. :) Always one of the most underrated bands of their time.

A majestic story about the mind of a true twisted and skewed individual. And so he tried to celebrate his death with the death of his friends all at the same time. A mastermind, an egoist or simply someone who is truly afraid of being alone. This song makes me shiver, it is a song that describes the current dark ages and dehumanization around the globe. A perverse sound and harmonic at the same time, a master plan mood done with amazing execution. SAGA, yes I remember, I grew up with their sounds. Now these sounds comes back to me, with greater strength. I know now at my age, what true musicians are.

Still: that only means I now give it an 8,5 in stead of a 9/10 :)))

Top notch song, but I miss a more prominent role for the bass guitar. It could have added some extra filling up, and not just in the parts where the keyboard hasn't much to do. It shouldn't become predominent either, -no need for a Tal Wilkenfeld here- just some extra subtle accents and bridges here and there. Idem for the drums: I sure like the Negus approach, the 16th notes with one hand, the mix of cymbals etc, but a somewhat more complex playing here and there wouldn't have harmed the song.

So that statement from some in this stream of comments claiming that Saga was an all Canadian band is as absurd as claiming that Tom Jones was from the same country known for its cold winters....

Not all of us will agree with the second part of your statement. To me, the latter mentioned CD should have been called 3/20....

It's the other way around: Gilmour emigrated from Scotland, whereas singer Michael Sadler originally was from Wales.

Not all Canadian I'm afraid. Jim Gilmour i think is from Scotland unless he was born in Canada and moved to Scotland ? Brilliant band tho. Hung out with Jim at the Heathery one year he was over visiting his family and friends back in early 80's. Great guy.
