Boney M. was a German pop and disco group created by record producer Frank Farian. Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the group's official lineup were Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett (Jamaica), Maizie Williams (Montserrat), and Bobby Farrell (Aruba).

"Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)" is a 1961 pop song by the American singer Sue Thompson. The song was written by John D. Loudermilk and appears on Thompson's 1962 Hickory Records album Meet Sue Thompson.

Released as a single in 1961, "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)" was Thompson's first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at #5 in October. The song also reached the top of the Billboard Easy Listening chart, which had been created earlier in 1961, becoming the second song by a female vocalist to top this list (following "Together" by Connie Francis). In Australia, the song topped out at #6 on the Kent Music Report, while in the United Kingdom, it peaked at #46 on the UK Singles Chart.

Loudermilk was inspired to write the song after a girlfriend of his went to see the 1960 film Spartacus: "After the movie went off, they turned the bright lights on, and it was just an ambience killer. The person I was with had tears in her eyes and said, 'Sad movies make me cry'.

Other artists who have covered the song include British pop singer Carol Deene (whose version of the song charted at #44 on the UK Singles Chart at the same time as Thompson's recording), French pop singer Sylvie Vartan ("Quand le film est triste") and German disco band Boney M..

Listening to a music like this which time has buried deep into the recess of our brain suddenly wake us up triggering moments once forgotten to flood us with excitement and calm.... and joy and deep appreciation of the past wishing we were there again...

@NyeyitAnderson Boney M as a group no longer exist, but the "Voice" of the group, Liz Mitchell, is still active with the old songs. They only appear now and than in an "Oldie Show" also here on TV in Germany and Austria.
