When I was younger, I grew up thinking this track by Sad Café was sung by an American Group.I guess I imagined, that No English group could possibly sound this good.It has only been in the last fort-night that I saw a performance of this song, on the repeat editions of Top of the Pops (from the year of 1979) that I found out in fact, that Sad Café were a group from Manchester. This fact alone has knocked me out for six. What Sad Café did with this song, I believe is very rare for a English Pop Group. It really is perfect Pop music, and I mean as perfect as it can possibly get.You may see the same examples vocally in the music that 10 cc and even XTC in how they worked the harmonies in a group, but I believe that what 10.cc did with the Every Day Hurts Single is very unique, especially for the year of 1979 in British Pop Music. The Every Day Hurts single uses the unique qualities that the Beatles used in creating perfect English Pop Music.Eric Stewart's production on this song is absolutely incredible. The harmonies on this song are like the way the Beatles created their harmonies. Very close together and with the same sound timbre like they were made to sound like one-vocal choir of voices. The strings arrangement in this song is also incredible. Sounding very classical-English while at the same time sounding a bit European, like Baccara's string arrangement on' Yes Sir I Can Boogie.'As far as I am concerned, this is one of the finest British Vocal Pop Songs of the whole late 1970's period. This song shows what can be achieved in British Pop Music when it is created and viewed from a purely artistic aesthetic.
