For all those wondering, Tali-Ihantala was a battle fought between the Finnish Army and the Red Army during the Continuation War in 1944. The Finnish numbered up to 50,000 while the Soviets numbered up to 150,000. The Finnish won the battle with a total of 8,500 casualties, while the Red Army suffered 27,000.

In the early 90's I got few drinks in the bar with a man and a soldier of Finnish army, who was in Tali-Ihantala and survived from that hell.. He saw all fallen in side, but he survived.. Also, he knew my great Uncle, who fall in the battle field in Vyborg region as a Finnish army officer. I salute him and shake his hand for really long time.. Nothing else is not be published about this mano to mano talk..

@Simian. You have prolly already been told, but the Finnish swastika has nothing to do with nazis, who did not exist when it was chosen for our insignia. As a good luck symbol of the Sun it has been in almost every culture since the stone age cave paintings and engravings. Including ours.In this particular case it came from the Swedish Count von Rosen, who donated the first two airplanes - Morane-Thulin Parasols - to the newly independent Finnish Air Force. His house's personal insignia for good luck.
