The Winter War (Finnish: talvisota) took place between 30 November 1939 and 13 March 1940 when the Red Army of the Soviet Union tried to occupy Finland, after they had refused the Russian demands. The Finnish troops resisted for months, though they were outnumbered and had less weapons. When the war ended Finland had lost 11% of its territory and stayed independent. 70,000 Finns died or were wounded, the Soviet losses are valued at many times over that number.

CAUTION!

I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.

"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened." (Rikard Sundén, Sabaton)

----------

I asked my grandfather (who was in the winter- and continuation war) how did he felt to kill (russian) people. He said, that only thing he felt, was hungry. RIP. Miss you.

I am just realising now how bad Sabaton's grammar truly is sometimes.

It is always said that Finland won the Winter War. I kinda disagree that opinion, well yes, Soviet Union didn't invade Finland. But it was Finland who eventually decided to accept the peace agreement with Soviet Union, and that was only because the line was about to be broken. Same goes with continuation war. It was only weeks or maybe even days for Soviet Union to invade Finland. Yes, Finland held the line and that was incredible, remember that Finland had only about 340 000 soldiers against the 1 million Soviets in the frontline, which was about 1000 kilometers (or a bit over 600 miles) long. It wasn't pure victory for Finland, I prefer to call it in its real name: defensive victory.Well, most of all this comment was for me to get a chance to write some meaningless shit including some facts about Winter War... :D

One advantage that us finns had as well is not mentioned often, im talking about artillery. Not about the amount of artillery but how finns used them they could quite effectively concentrate fire from multiple batteries and destroy entire units unlike the russians

If only Sabaton corrected all their English mistakes in this song. It would probably be one of my favorites!

Hello, I'm Russian and I feel sorry for that war. Without it Finland could become and ally of USSR and fight with the Germans on our side.

All people know, how vikings went to west (England, Greenland, Iceland), or east, deep to "russia" (name comes from vikings), and south. For example, in Istanbul, Hagia Sofia mosque (originally church) there is about 1000 years old carving with viking´s rune letters: "Halfdan was here".Vikings let every where where they went "rune stones", which often say like "This land is property of Erik Blood-axe, who is blah blah blah.."But why there is no signs, stones or anything in Finland? We were/are their neighbours, after all... No mentions in 1000 old viking sagas (ancient stories/history)

Danish author Sven Hassel said it right; "Three months after the war you are a Hero, people then forget you. Medals? Those are just chip-coins for lost innocense and youth..."

Winter War was a massive tragedy for both sides. Average, young people on both sides were put to fight against each other...Though in Finland it is called also "105 days of Glory", i can never forget how my late grand papa and some of his friends looked like in sauna, after some vodka-drinks, and forgotten that there is 9 years young boy (me) there too...Those stories... so silently they spoke... None of them spoke about "glory" or "bravery". Just heart-braking stories like "..i saw his eyes, but i was faster! I saw his face bursting... That image never goes away... We all were just so young boys!..."
