The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.

It is the world's oldest still used military decoration and has been awarded nearly 2 million times.

First written as "Nightchild" this song was meant to follow the style of their first album "Fist for Fight". It is not known why they reshaped it into "Purple Heart", but it was definitely the first step of their steep ascent to the point where they are today.

CAUTION!

I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.

"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened." (Rikard Sundén, Sabaton)

Please support Sabaton and purchase their current album Coat of Arms.

----------

So does anyone know why Purple Heart is just a re-work or Nightchild? Don't get me wrong, their both great songs but literally the only difference is the lyrics.

Today we remember those who died in war in the Netherlands. Thank you to all allied servicemen, who rid our country of the utter darkness of the Third Reich.

Metal Machine was the first Sabaton song I ever heard and I loved it and listened to the metal tributes, but this is the song that really got me listening to them.

I wouldn't die for a flag, banner or anything like that... I don't believe on nationalism or patriotism anymore... But I can understand and I probably wouldn't mind giving my life for something I believed.

Is it just my imagination or does the "S" in sabaton look kind of like a swastika?

i hope one day i will fight for something i believe and and if i die trying for that cause sacrifice is the greatest thing you can give to a cause but to be drafted and sent straight into a jungle and seeing your brothers in arms burned alive by your own napalm only to return home seeing things no man should ever see is a life sentence to hell
