Highlights of the 2008 Old-Time Piano Championship held Memorial Day weekend at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria, IL. 15 year-old Wesley Reznicek of Dixon, Missouri playing the Russian Rag by George L. Cobb which you might recognise as a Ragtime take-off on the Prelude in C# minor by classical composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

@C3P0meetsData Very astute! Yes, Rachmaninoff's piece is "Prelude in C# Minor," but Cobb wrote "Russian Rag" in D minor.13 years ago

I finally got this to play. I have been hoping to hear a video of Wes' later than The Billiken Rag. Though I think he actually did a more polished job on The Billiken, this shows a lot of advancement in some ways. Hope he might try Hot House Rag by Paul Pratt. Wally Rose did a superb recording of it many years ago. Will be hearing Wes next week at the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Sedalia.Related Videos
