But please do not do that if you expect to return the piano to its normal sound in the future. Making holes in the felt fundamentally changes the hammers, and it can never be properly restored to its pre-drawing-pin state (and sound). Expensive replacement will be needed.

I adored Russ Conway when I was a child. In fact I decided to run away from home and live with him. I think I was 7 at the time. Needless to say, Mum stopped that one in its tracks. Funnily enough the girl who later became my best friend at school was also going to run away and live with Russ. Happy memories.

Wonderful to hear Russ playing again. My grandfather used to put brown paper between the hammers of the old upright to get the Honky Tonk sound. Wonderful

Wonderful piano. Thanks for the song. I rank him up there with Moon Mullican and Floyd Cramer. That, coming from me, is a HUGE compliment as I am born and bred country music fanatic. LOL!!! to my favorites.

If i remember rightly,Many pianists in that era put drawing pins into the hammers on their pianos to get that classic "honytonk" sound.
